Capalla says gov’t’s response to Maguindanao massacre is good
DAVAO City, Dec. 14, 2009— While the government lifted the martial law in Maguindanao on Saturday, Davao Archbishop Fernando R. Capalla said that the imposition of martial law in Maguindanao as a response to the Maguindanao massacre is good even as he also noted “goodness” among anti-government groups.
Capalla said that although many are questioning the responses of the national government prior to the lifting of martial law, “the purpose is still good, at least in general.”
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde admitted that Malacañang had a one-week timetable for the imposition of martial law over Maguindanao province.
Arroyo’s critics called for an investigation into the constitutionality of the president’s issuance of Proclamation 1959 placing the Province of Maguindanao under the military rule.
He added that even the reaction of those anti-government groups “is also generally good and positive, although the method of protests may be defective.”
“The media, which sometimes is not reporting the truth, and the commentaries of persons who do not know much of the Maguindanao Province, have been mentioning several good things that may be expected from the tragedy,” said Capalla.
Capalla noted that the media was mentioning that the culture of impunity must stop, warlordism must be necessarily eradicated, local governance must be improved, private armies must be dismantled, loose firearms which were reported to number around 400,000 must be confiscated and drug syndicates and drug lords must be stopped which according
to him are manifestations of good things.
“We pray that these good things become a reality,” he said.
But, as to how and when, Capalla said, “we do not know.”
He said it will only take place if the people will begin “to acquire a positive attitude at life, at everything that happens, even at the evil that is being perpetrated.” (Mark S. Ventura)
The respond of Mr.Capalla seems like too scratchy for the people who lost their family.it can cause angryness and lost of admiration.

*some may hate him for his statement.
i dont think Mr. Capally like so saying things like that because he was also a politician but the fact that those have losen thier love once caused by that tragedy could plant a pain inside of their being. they may say "how could he say such when he knows its hard to loose a love one". he maybe to selfish because he could still say such when he knows his not in the same situation.
some people may say" its is easy for him because he is also a politician and he wants some other opposite side politician to be out". he'll going to loose some voters for that and maybe more than he could ever thing for himself.
